hi david!
i haven't even visited my own blog in ages! haha.
thanks for your comments, and here's my explanation.

we were living in dubai. and we called a million people, asking them how best to get a visa for my hubby who's on a malaysian passport. we got pretty dodgy answers ("we don't recognize Israel." "well, we don't really not recognize israel, but ... no we cannot really talk about it" stuff of the movies). the best was to go the israeli consulate in amman, apparently. so before we went down to the embassy, we gave them a ring, explained our situation, briefly told them of our conversations with various consulates etc., and the friendly lady could only say "i am sorry, but i cannot tell you much about this matter on the phone. please come down to our consulate/embassy and i'll help you."

and so we did. and we only wasted hours outside barricades leading to the consulate. we couldn't even see the consulate. it was chaotic. just as it was at the border crossing. the guards refused to listen to us, didn't even bother to hear us say anything for 2 seconds, simply swatted us away like flies. we weren't the only tourists there, that was what was surprising. i am sure they're overwhelmed, but seriously, we were not begging for a visa.

so, no, we were not as high as a kite. we're very reasonable people, and we'd exhausted all options. the only saving grace was the supervisor at the border crossing who apologised for his staff - i am pretty sure he knows what goes on there. he pointed out a tour operating company and said they can help us out, but they weren't in. we didn't have time - we just had to go back to jordan.

to be honest, i was not so pissed about the visa as i was about how they were treating human beings - dismissing polite tourists (we've travelled enough to know better), shoving an 80-90 year old palestinian woman, shouting, shouting, shouting, SHOUTING. i understand why it is hard to get a visa - and i know the easiest way for my hubby is a pilgrimage visa through a church - but out of 20 israelis we had observed throughout these few days, 18 were really nasty. i am very sure this is not a reflection of all israelis, just a reflection of their own personal frustrations and shortcomings - but this is not the way.

it is how it is. but it should not be this way.

we will definitely go to israel one day - it's still on our agenda. but like the brit lady stuck at the counter with us said, fly to tel aviv instead.

see ya.

I have IBS too. The only thing that helps me is to eat moderately, avoid dairy and flour, and to get at least an hour of exercise daily. Unfortunately, I love noodles and bagels. . . .

Replace 'Brahmin' with 'Jewish', and you would be accused of hate speech.

However, we all know that no one has murdered 6 million Brahmins......yet. So I guess it is OK.

And just FYI, eating vegetarian food is not the prerogative of Brahmins alone. Several communities in India are traditionally vegetarian.

I am sorry you had a bad experience in India, but I daresay that with some luck, you can have such an experience in any country. Hope you will make enlightening posts targeting the ethnicity you believe such persons belong to.

Thanks.

Hi, I came across your blog from another person's blog who was venting about Kaplan. :P I hope you can help me with some questions that I have cause the person in-charge of it, replies half or nothing of the emails I send to her or either she's nowhere near the phone. I am going to start the same course that you are doing(BA in Psy with Marketing Management). In fact, I start next week and the Orientation is this Saturday. I start with the bridging courses this term. What I need is your personal opinion on how you find the course itself, the lecturers + the course consultant . Thanks a lot. :)
